HiHELIOS Research Presented at the 10th E-Mobility Power System Integration Symposium
Updated: Oct 22
On 28–29 September 2026, HiHELIOS research was presented at the 10th E-Mobility Power System Integration Symposium in Porto, Portugal, reaching an audience of 120 participants, including grid operators, automotive and charging manufacturers, researchers, infrastructure developers, and policymakers.
The paper, “Assessment of Hybrid Battery Energy Storage Systems for Ancillary Services in Fast EV Charging Stations in Norway”, authored by SINTEF partners Lucas Savoi de Araujo, René Alexander Barrera-Cárdenas and Daniel dos Santo Mota, investigates the potential of hybrid battery energy storage systems to reduce peak demand and optimise electricity costs at fast EV charging stations.
The study compares three configurations: a hybrid system combining high-energy second-life NMC batteries with high-power LTO modules, and two single-technology systems based on NMC and LTO batteries, respectively. Using realistic EV charging load profiles, the research explores how these solutions could improve charging station operations in Norway, where electricity costs include both spot-market prices and peak-demand charges.
This work contributes to HiHELIOS’ broader efforts to develop flexible, scalable and sustainable hybrid energy storage solutions for future energy systems and electric mobility.
