CEA
Grenoble, France
CEA is the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission, a public research organization working in four sectors: defense and security, nuclear and renewable energies, technological research for industries, and fundamental research. With recognized expertise, CEA participates in collaborative projects with numerous academic and industrial partners. With 16,000 researchers and collaborators, it is a major European research player with growing international presence. In the solar energy field, CEA employs over 350 people at INES, the French Solar Energy Institute, operational since 2005. Nine laboratories cover the complete value chain: wafers, cells, modules, solar systems, storage, power electronics, energy management, smart grids and end-user applications with buildings and energy communities. High-level platforms support the research work especially in storage and smart grid activities: solar EV charging station, more than 200 cell and battery test channels and a smart grid platform connected to 20 kV with a largepanel of network configuration (up to 2800 kVA).
Contribution to the project
CEA leads the overall project coordination and two key work packages: WP5 (HESS demonstration, testing and validation) and WP8 (Project Management). In WP5, CEA conducts Hardware-in-the-Loop testing performances of the HESS system at its facilities (smart grid platform), especially focusing on the Kythnos marina use case. CEA organizes the analysis of testing data and the assessment of the performances of all four HESS demonstrators regarding predefined KPIs. For WP8, CEA manages administrative, legal, and financial aspects, coordinates with the European Commission, ensures quality assurance, and develops the Data Management Plan. Regarding project management, CEA organizes regular meetings, monitors technical progress, handles risk management, and coordinates contractual issues between partners and external stakeholders.
